School and Work have kept me very busy! I have the majority of this week off and fully intend to do some serious evaluating in the barn. I just re read my post on the blue/black orps, and the difference in them now is astounding! The black pullet in particular is very sharp looking and her sheen is outrageous! The cockerel is feathering in very nicely also. his hackles still have a bit to go though as hes got that short spiky neck going on right now, but they are super glossy! The blue hens have filled in nicely, nice and wide too. The buffs are coming along nicely too, one pullet in particular looks to be on her way to being nice deep and broad!
I trimmed the chanties down to just a pair... i was not happy with the pattern and colour of the others so i decided to just work with the strongest birds. The hen is filling in nicely and has just recently began to lay. the cockerel is finally feathering in some and looking less like a dinosaur every day lol.
Speaking of feathering in, I guess the silver laced Wyandottes finally got the memo and are starting to look respectable. one pullet in particular is really filling in nicely and has very sharp lacing. I think I've picked my winner between the 3 cockerels as well. Hopefully it will become clearer to me in the future.
I have settled on the breeders for the turkeys as well. The trio of Bourbon Reds will all make it as will the pair of lavender and trio of blue slates (though i may decide to keep only a pair later on). That should make for ample turkey for the freezer. If all goes according to plan i should start on that this week.
All this text and no photos is almost cruel lol, i'll be sure to post lots of photos later on this week.
